The increasing number of books require a space to store and the space is a scarcest of resource which cannot be increased. This compels the library to adopt to modern storing concepts. The need of this modern storing concept requires funds to store the present books. This is planned by way of steel compactor cupboards moving on a rail and saving lot of space. This ultimately will prevent the demolition of the heritage old building to supplant the space need and will contribute to preservation of the heritage.
As the library enters the 5G era, the computer systems which the library has need to be completely changed. In this case a new and separate section for the youth under the age of 18 is also proposed to be created which will require modern gazettes based mainly on computers and softwares apart from audio visual equipments and instruments. This will directly contribute to education of all sections of the society and especially the youth.
In the existing RCC structure of the new building, a second floor’s space is remaining to be constructed which can make available a complete hall of about 2500 sq. ft. The RCC structure is already there which has ground and first floors already constructed.
The library building is old and some parts need immediate repairs especially the waterproofing and removing unsafe parts. The unsafe parts are mainly the old galleries which are projected outside the building and are of no use at all but are a threat to public moving on the road below those galleries.
The Lokmanya Tilak Sabhagruh, the oldest part of the building, is now more than 115 years old and needs major repairs and preservation expenditure.
Electrification of the existing structure needs to be revisited as per the electrical audit done by the local engineer. This includes change of old wires and cables and increase in connected load to the requirements.
The library is moving to its 150th year. The same is proposed to be celebrated with various lit fests involving important lectures, interviews, talk shows, book exhibitions and cultural programs. All of these are focused and planned towards encouraging reading and writing and thus achieving the objects of the library. The detailing is in progress and the estimates are not yet arrived . This shall be a multiple activity even contributing and covered under multiple heads under the CSR activities.
All the systems and the infrastructure need power. The power bills eat the revenue. Considering the power requirements in all the developments enunciated as above, rooftop solar power system is unavoidable. Green energy is the need of the day considering climate changes causing havoc all over the planet. The rooftop solar system will further contribute to the conservation of natural resources.
All the above requirements are covered under the focus core area for CSR activities under Schedule VII to the Companies Act, 2013.
